Why you should choose barefoot shoes for sports

Whether jogging, hiking, fitness or indoor sports - sports shoe manufacturers suggest that you need a specific high-performance shoe for every sport. A really good sports shoe needs a heel, cushioning and support elements? Far from it! In this article, we explain why the opposite is the case, why shoes with heavy cushioning can actually harm the body and why our shoes are the right choice for almost every type of sport.

Walking barefoot is the most natural way of moving that you can imagine and yet nowadays we rely on shoes that seem more innovative than the others. This doesn't necessarily make sense, especially when it comes to sport. A 2010 study by evolutionary biologist Daniel Liebermann of Harvard University found that modern shoes are responsible for numerous orthopaedic problems. In the study, Liebermann found that barefoot runners strike first with the forefoot or midfoot when running, whereas runners with cushioned shoes strike with the heel. The barefoot runners therefore put much less strain on the musculoskeletal system. Paradoxically, the joints and bones are subjected to greater stress when running with cushioned shoes.

What makes barefoot shoes special for sports?

Barefoot sports shoes such as those from ZAQQ, which are available for both men and women, have made it their mission to offer the feet as much freedom of movement as possible. Our shoes have no height difference between the ball of the foot and the heel, which encourages correct rolling and stride. This allows you to step over the forefoot first and not over the heel as is usually the case with classic sports shoes.

Get used to your new training partner slowly! 

But be careful: if you want to train with our shoes in the future to provide your body with long-term relief, don't rush things! Your muscles, tendons and ligaments are probably still used to being supported and cushioned at the moment - so the work has been done for them so far. Your body therefore needs time to get used to the new circumstances and build up its own resistance again. You should therefore give your body at least three months to get used to your barefoot shoes step by step before switching to them completely for your training!
